Founded in 2013, the Harpa International Music Academy, HIMA, is a unique summer festival in the northernmost capital of the world, that focuses equally on training and performance. HIMA is ideally located in the mid-Atlantic and draws participants from Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Not only do we recognize and promote young musicians through performances in Harpa, a world-class concert hall, HIMA also offers string, wind and piano training, including solo lessons, chamber music, orchestra, masterclasses and seminars.
Our participants range from young children to adults, and come from different continents and cultures. We come together each year during this special time of year to enjoy making music and friends under the midnight sun.

Past Events

This year the Harpa International Music Academy is held in collaboration with New Music For Strings, NMFS, a new classical music festival with the mission to foster an inter-disciplinary space between the fields of string instrument performance and composition. Through the collaboration, Eugene Drucker of the Emerson String Quartet will direct the Academy String Orchestra in the final concert on August 15th, a joint Festival Gala hosted by HIMA and NMFS together.
